Highline Uses Two PKs to Down Spokane 3-0 and Advance to Title Game

TUKWILA, Wash. — Highline College secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Spokane in the semifinal of the 2025 NWAC Men's Soccer Championship on Friday at Starfire Stadium.

Highline initiated the scoring early in the first half with a penalty kick goal by Harrison Emert at the 5th minute, which remained the lone goal of the period. Spokane's Lucas Briet tested Highline's defense with a shot in the 10th minute, but goalkeeper Kyle Goodrow made the save. Spokane continued to apply pressure after falling behind early, recording several shots, including attempts by Kevin Ng and Cipriano Acosta Jr., but they could not convert. Highline's defense held firm, aided by two defensive saves, maintaining their 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.

The second period saw Highline extend its lead over Spokane with a series of pivotal plays. An own goal by Spokane in the 48th minute increased the Thunderbirds' advantage. A through ball deflected of a Spokane defender's foot and into the back of the net. Highline capitalized further when Idin Fakhri scored on a penalty kick in the 67th minute, following a red card issued to Spokane's Riley Galloway. that all but sealed the victory for the Thunderbirds.

Goodrow stood out in the match, securing a shutout with five saves for Highline. His performance in goal was critical, as he made three saves in the first half and two in the second to keep the Sasquatch scoreless. On the offensive front, Fakhri contributed with a team-high two shots on goal.

Acosta Jr. stood out for the Sasquatch with a team-high four shots, three of which were on goal. Nico Briet and Lucas Briet each contributed with one shot on goal. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Noah Jordan faced four shots and managed one save over 90 minutes.

The Thunderbirds remain undefeated with a record of 17-0-3 overall and 12-0-3 in conference play. They will move onto the NWAC Championship match where they will face Columbia Basin on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Spokane finishes a great season with a 9-2-1 record and the Co-East Region title.
