TUKWILA, Wash. - The Clark College men's soccer team advanced to its first NWAC Championship game since 2013, defeating Everett 2-1 in the semifinals of the 2024 NWAC Men's Soccer Championships on Friday evening at Starfire Stadium.
After trailing 1-0 through 45 minutes, Everett started the second half with a bang as they tied things up in just six minutes on a goal from Cristiano Whitaker, assisted by Lunden Fenster. Clark responded less than 10 minutes later to retake the lead off of a spectacular goal by Abraham Alvarez-Castro, who lasered one through the defense from a sharp angle that hit off of both posts before finding the back of the net. The Penguins later thought they had a third goal but it was taken back in the 73rd minute due to a player being in an offside position for the goal.
Alvarez-Castro had a big game for the Penguins as he also assisted on the team's first goal in the 33rd minute, setting up teammate Milos Mavrak.
Clark outshot Everett 21-11 for the game including 11-4 in the first half. The Penguins also had a 7-1 corner kick advantage in the first half, but the Trojans flipped the script with a 7-1 advantage in the final 45 minutes as they pressured for the equalizing goal.
Clark keeper Jake Bilsborough made three saves in the win while Everett goalkeeper Paddy Murphy had five saves.
The Penguins will face defending NWAC Champions Peninsula in the finals, which take place on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Starfire Stadium.
