Yakima Valley Wins the 34th Red Devil Classic
LONGVIEW, Wash. - The Yakima Valley Yaks rallied in the second half to defeat Lower Columbia 88-72 in the championship game of the 34th Red Devil Classic in Longview on Sunday November 28th.
Down 50-40 with 13 minutes left, the Yaks turned up the defense and won going away. Godwin Ilumoka scored 20 points off the bench to lead the way. Conner Kelley had 17 and Conner Turner added 16.
Kelley was named the tournament MVP. Turner and Ilumoka were also all tournament selections for YVC.
Sherman Royal III led the Red Devils with 12 points and nine rebounds. Royal was also named to the all-tournament team along with LCC point guard Ky-mani Pollard who had 13 points in the title game.
Earlier on Sunday, Everett defeated Spokane 77-63. Leon Sayers led the Trojans with 19 points. Brendon Redford had 14 points and 14 rebounds. Redford was named to the all-tournament team. Spokane's Kaleb Johnson had 21 points to lead all scorers. Jaron Williams was the all-tournament selection from Spokane.
The first game Sunday was a double-overtime thriller as Olympic fought from behind to defeat Southwestern Oregon 77-76. Down 10 at the half, the Rangers got it into OT and then needed another extra session to get the win. Aundree Polk led Olympic with 23 points. Wayne Jamison and Tyler Behrend had 19 each for Olympic. Jamison was named to the all-tournament team. Kareem Rowe had a huge game for SWOCC with 31 points and 11 rebounds. Rowe was also an all-tournament selection.
