Spokane Stays Alive with Thrilling 3-2 Win over Everett in 13 Innings
LONGVIEW, Wash. – The Spokane Sasquatch outlasted the Everett Trojans 3-2 in a 13-inning classic to keep their tournament run alive in Game 10 of the 2024 NWAC Baseball Championship on Saturday at David Story Field.
After five innings in a row without a run between both teams, Spokane's Reese Vassar broke through with the go-ahead RBI single to score Jalen King in the top of the 13th inning. Closer Tyler Alm came in and shut the door with a perfect bottom half to seal the win for the Sasquatch.
Overall, both teams pitched exceptionally well. Spokane starter Joshua Tucker went six innings strong, allowing two runs with four walks and five strikeouts. Josh Sterba came out of the bullpen and threw a season-high six innings in relief, holding Everett scoreless on just three hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Sterba gave his offense a chance to get the game-winning run across.
Trojan starter Landon Welter went 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts. The bullpen was strong for Everett as AJ Hendrickson allowed just one run over 2.2 innings. Blake Sandvik pitched the final four innings, receiving a tough-luck loss as he allowed only one run on four hits with five punchouts.
After being held scoreless through the first six innings and trailing 2-0, Spokane got on the board on a big two-out, two-RBI single by Jaxson Davis, scoring Dallas Gohl and Joseph Rajo. Gohl paced the offense with three hits on the day.
Everett jumped out to an early lead with a run-scoring ground out by Carson Burns to score Isaac Hoag. Jake Lockwood added onto the Trojans lead in the fourth inning with an RBI double to score Burns.
After dropping their first game of the tournament on Thursday by a 1-0 score, the Sasquatch have won back-to-back games by one run each. They will next play on Sunday against Linn-Benton in either Game 12 at 12:05 p.m. or Game 13 at 4:05 p.m. depending on the result of Game 11 between LBCC and Tacoma.
Everett finishes an outstanding season with a 31-16 record, the North Region championship and their 12th NWAC tournament appearance.
